Edelrid - Spoc
The Edelrid Spoc is an ultralight progress capture pulley, often seen used as a rope clamp for ascents, a simple pulley, or a pulley with a backstop for hauling and crevasse rescue.
The 92% efficient ball bearing pulley and a spring-loaded cam that locks automatically make it well-suited to demanding conditions, with the cam's toothed design maintaining grip even on icy or muddy ropes. A cable pull releases the backstop with one hand, and the cam can be fixed open to use the device as a straightforward pulley. The oversized carabiner hole allows the device to rotate fully around a screwgate, making installation quick and simple.
Compatible with ropes from 7-11mm, and with the Edelrid Rap Line II 6mm. Certified to EN 12278 and EN 567, with a minimum breaking strength of 15 kN. Requires an oval or pear-shaped screwgate carabiner.
The Spoc regularly appears in discussions about top rope solo setups and is a common choice for a backup device. Although not recommended by Edelrid, some choose to remove the cable to reduce the chance of the cam being accidentally left open when used purely as a backup.
